I was the first site of documented gold in the United States. I’m located close to Midland in Cabarrus County. John Reed founded me.
His son Conrad Reed was the first person to find gold. He found a 17 pound
gold nugget in 1799. I am now a National Historical Landmark. At Halloween kids come and dress up and tell the story of the “Mad Miner”.

I am the largest home in North America, standing with an area of 175,000 square feet. Because of my impressive size and scenery, my gardens were featured in twelve Hollywood movies. Built between the years of 1888-1895, I cost George Vanderbilt roughly $200 million.
Some of my impressive features include a two-story library, an indoor bowling alley, and a 70,000 gallon indoor swimming pool. I was opened for tourism on March 15, 1930, and thousands of people visit me each year. Who am I?

I spy one of NASCARS favorite drivers.

My dad is known as the racing legend. I am the third generation stock car racer in my family. I have seventeen victories, which rank me 39th on the all time winners list. I have four all star wins and seven Bud Pole Awards. One of my favorite drinks is “Mountain dew” and I have been in more than “88” races.

iSPY a landform...

I am a natural landform in the heart of the Uwharrie Mountains, one of the oldest mountain ranges in North America. I was home to Dr. Francis Kron, the first medical doctor to settle in the southern piedmont. Although he is long gone, I'm still home to abundant wildlife and a 4,742 acre state park. What am I?
